The curriculum follows the Programmes of Study laid down by the English National Curriculum (2000). The skills and understanding taught at GIS are similar to those prescribed in the National Curriculum. The body of knowledge in certain subjects has, however, been 'internationalised'.

Pupils can expect an emphasis on English, Mathematics and Science. Due stress is placed on speaking, listening, reading, writing and spelling. A broad mathematical experience is aimed at catering for the needs of children's different abilities and maturities. An investigational approach in Science is followed via topics based on the Primary Syllabus in the National Curriculum.

Historical and geographical topics range from the Victorians to 'Pre-Colonial Malaya' and from 'home and school' to 'conservation'.

Many of the topics have been designed to draw on local sources but there is also an attempt to create a global perspective. Relevant skills and understanding are built into the planning of these topics.

There is an extensive range of co-curricular activities after school to complement the normal curriculum. These include a wide variety of sporting activities from swimming to soccer and expressive arts activities.

All children receive specialist Physical Education teaching every week. This also applies to Music, French, Bahasa Melayu and Information Communication Technology (ICT) that are taught discreetly from Year 3 to Year 6.

The Learning Support Unit provides support for children who require assistance in learning.

Children spend most of their time with class teachers but there are also specialist teachers for Music, Physical Education, French,Bahasa Melayu and Information Communication Technology.

At Garden International School, children are encouraged to be academically inquisitive and to take responsibility and initiative. This is to ensure that the standards achieved by Year 6 pupils are compatible with the requirements of entry into any British type secondary schools.
