Garden International School is the largest private, co-educational, international school in Malaysia. Established in 1951, GIS provides a British-style education to the expatriate and local community in Kuala Lumpur.
Since then, the School has undergone a period of sustained development, culminating in the relocation of the main campus to a large purpose-built site in a residential suburb of Kuala Lumpur in 1996.
The curriculum emphasises a child-centred instructional approach in the acquisition of basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills.
At present, the Primary Department of GIS accommodates children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. Children should be 5 on or before 31 August in order to enrol in Year 1.
The Primary block forms one side of the school campus and is comprised of purpose-built, air-conditioned classrooms. In addition, there is a Central Library, Music Rooms, two Information Technology laboratories, Design Technology Workshop, Learning Support and EAL rooms, a Multi-media/Drama Room and an Art Room. The sports facilities which include an indoor sports hall, gymnasium, swimming pool, tennis/basketball court and field are shared with the Secondary School.
