A Solid Foundation For The Vital Years
The Curriculum
The Early Years Centre (EYC) provides the Foundation Stage Curriculum. Its primary concern is to develop physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of all Nursery and Reception children attending GIS.
The EYC follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Literacy and Numeracy are studied as set out in the English National Curriculum documents. The EYC also offers a comprehensive phonics course by merging “Jolly Phonics” and “Letters and Sounds”. There are four areas of the IPC for Early Years - Independence & Interdependence, Creative Communication, Exploring and Healthy Living.
Our curriculum not only acts as a transition between home and school but also starts children off with the learning habits necessary to access education at a later age. The curriculum underpins all future learning by supporting, fostering, promoting and developing children's experience. During their early formative years, they begin to make sense of their world through a broad and balanced learning environment.
It is important for all our students to feel happy, confident, secure and cared for in an attractive and well-resourced setting. They are then motivated to learn and will enjoy a sense of personal achievement and independence.
A high priority is given to the process of learning through practical, first-hand experiences. Well-planned play, both inside and outside, is a key way in which young children learn with enjoyment and challenge. There are opportunities for children to record and develop early reading, writing and number skills in a creative and imaginative way with effective adult support.
At the start of each term all children will receive a curriculum letter from the Year Leader, which will lay out an overview of the work to be covered during the next few weeks. General information on upcoming events will also be included.

Location
The Early Years Centre is located in Taman Desa Hartamas about 5 minutes drive from the main school campus. The Centre is a small school in its own right; having a Hall, Music Room, Library, ICT Suite and Multi Purpose Room. The area is continually being developed to provide a safe, stimulating child-centred environment in which our young pupils can thrive socially, intellectually and physically.
We currently have 2 Nursery classes and 5 Reception classes, with 20 children in each class. Each nursery class has one teacher and two assistant teachers, the Reception classes have one teacher and one assistant teacher. Specialist teachers join us for PE, Music, ICT and Bahasa Malaysia, all other subjects are taught by the class teacher.
SAFETY – Travelling to and from school
The school operates a drop off and pick up system with no parking allowed on the campus.
Drivers.
· Do not park or leave your vehicle unattended in the pick up and drop off lane
· Children must walk along the path after leaving the car
· All children should wear seat belts to and from school
Pedestrians.
· All pedestrians must use the foot gate, please do not walk children through the car gates
Healthy Eating
All children have two snack breaks and two outside playtimes. We encourage healthy eating; please think ‘healthy’ when preparing your child’s snack. A piece of fruit or vegetables or a sandwich is enough for 1st snack. We also encourage the children to bring in water or non-fizzy juices for their own consumption. It is important that you know what your children eat at school. Consequently the staff will ensure that only the minimum amount of sharing takes place and that uneaten food will be returned home in the box. Our snack rooms are air –conditioned and children can keep dairy products in the fridge.
