Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE)
Printer friendly

The broad aim of PSHE in the Primary School is to develop the moral, cultural and social skills of each student and to raise their awareness of health issues that may impact them. The personal development of students in this way plays a significant part in their ability to become effective learners and contributors to their community.

The International Primary Curriculum approaches PSHE from the perspective that efforts to achieve the development of these skills and understandings should be reflected through the whole curriculum. The IPC lists the Personal Goals of

• Enquiry • Communication
• Adaptability • Thoughtfulness
• Resilience • Cooperation
• Morality • Respect

The development of these qualities takes place through discussion, role-play, example and through the use of appropriate literature and media resources, and is part of each unit of study. This happens at a class, year group and whole – school level. Specific topics within PSHE are introduced in an age-appropriate way and parents are informed of topics so that they can discuss issues at home with their children.
