The aim of the Sixth Form at GIS is to prepare high-attaining students for admission to international universities of the highest standing. The Sixth Form provides the opportunity for students resident in Kuala Lumpur to experience the standards of teaching and learning and cultural life normally only available at independent schools within the UK.

There is a wide range of A level courses (Cambridge International Examinations Board, with some EDEXCEL courses) available with subject combinations tailored as far as possible to meet the needs and choices of individual students. The intake to the Sixth Form is deliberately restricted in order to provide small teaching groups and to enable individual academic and pastoral guidance to be provided to each student. Teaching styles are interactive. There are excellent specialist facilities available for both sciences and arts and full use is made of ICT as a medium for learning in all courses. There is a large and well stocked library and multi-media learning centre.

Commitment to study and high standards of work are expected of all Sixth Form students. The GIS Sixth Form is not a college environment. Students are expected to show the standards of dress, attitudes to work and sense of responsibility that might be expected in a professional working environment. Students do not have the degree of freedom found in a college but nor are they treated like children. Sixth Formers have their own social centre within the school. All courses take place within the security of the GIS campus at Bukit Kiara and except at lunchtime, Sixth Form students are expected to remain on the school site throughout the school day.

Membership of the GIS Sixth Form is not only about achieving good academic results but also developing student’s individual talents, social and leadership skills. There is a wide range of co-curricular activities and Sixth Form students are also encouraged to tackle the highest levels of the International Award and the Community Sports Leadership Award. Most GIS Sixth Form students are expected to move on to participate within the international business, academic or political communities. Members of the Sixth Form are therefore, encouraged to develop an international perspective, both through their academic studies and through participation in activities such as the Model United Nations.

All Sixth Form students receive individual counselling and advice on higher education options in the UK, Australia and the US from experienced Sixth Form pastoral staff.
