Application
Submit an application to the Admissions Department. Please refer to Application Checklist for details.

Assessment
Applicants are scheduled for an assessment only after the application for admission is complete. All children will be assessed in their appropriate year group (see Year Group Placement).

The nature of the assessment varies for different year groups and may require meeting a member of the academic staff. This will also help ascertain whether a child requires support for special needs or learning difficulties. As we may not have the capability of meeting the needs of children with learning difficulties, the School may have to deny admission. Other reasons an admission is denied may include concerns about the child’s academic records and/or behavioural display.
Specific dates and time for assessment correspond with the year group and the term where admission is applied for.

Nursery & Reception
Students will be assessed in English.  Whilst previous English knowledge is desirable in these years, it is NOT a requirement.  Children applying for places in Nursery & Reception must be toilet trained.

Years 1 to 11
Students will take a written test in English, Mathematics and any other tests deemed appropriate. This is conducted at the Admissions Office and lasts approximately 1.5 to 3 hours. Tests on other subjects may be scheduled if necessary.  Any student entering at this age must have competent English in order to access the full curriculum.  If a student is accepted into Years 1 to 9 with a low level of English, they may be asked to enroll in an EAL programme at the School.
It is essential that students applying into Years 10 & 11 have a very high level of English in order to access the curriculum in all areas.  The 2 years of study for the GCSE/IGCSE programme lead to external examinations and therefore, entrance into Year 11 will be considered only where subjects and syllabi in the previous school closely match the options available in this School.  Applicants may be interviewed at this stage to determine appropriate options selection and any other issues if applicable.

Years 12 & 13 (A Levels)
Applicants must have a minimum 36 points from the best 6 subjects (A* is 8 points, A is 7 points, B is 6 points, etc.) at GCSE/IGCSE level or its equivalent, including a minimum grade C at English and Maths.  Individual subjects to be studied at A Level must be presented with a minimum grade B.
In cases where the results are not yet available, mock exam reports and predicted grades are necessary upon application to the School.  Applicants will be interviewed.  Entrance in the middle of Year 12 & 13 will be considered only where subjects and syllabi in the previous school closely match the options available in this School.

Malaysian Applicant
Garden International School will submit to the Ministry of Education the completed Lampiran 1 and relevant documents only when a place is available for the applicant. Acceptance to the school is subject to written approval by the ministry. The response from the Ministry of Education may take several weeks/months.

Admission & Registration
Where places are available, admission of students into Garden International School is dependant on a satisfactory assessment. An offer of admission to the school is also based on the belief that a child will benefit from the curriculum offered and that his/her admission will not have a detrimental effect upon the education of existing students. It is possible a child is accepted on conditional status. The conditions will be mentioned on the Letter of Offer.

For Malaysians, parents will be notified upon receipt of an approval letter from the Ministry of Education. The child will be offered a place subject to availability. A place will not be reserved for the child upon submission of the application for admission.

The acceptance of the offer must be made on or before a specified date stipulated in the Letter of Offer. The payment of the required fees constitutes the acceptance of a place and therein CONFIRMS the place for the child.

Where places are not available, applicants are placed on a waiting list.  However, the School reserves the right to assign priorities for admission or refuse admission for any reason it deems fit.
