It was
Christmas eve in Milan. In the afternoon the central Piazza del
Duomo and all the other streets were crowded because people were
struggling to buy their last presents in the shops.
At about
5 o’clock it started snowing and soon the statue of Vittorio
Emanuele and the centre of the square was covered in snow.
Lavinia
was a little match seller who didn’t have any parents and was forced
to spend avery day in the cold without anything to eat or drink.
One day a
policeman approached Lavinia and touched her with his foot because
she was very dirty. He said to her: “Don’t sell matches here because
you haven’t got a permit”.
After
some days, while Lavinia was sleeping beneath some steps she heard
many children having fun and eating panettone in their homes. She
dreamt of eating a piece, too.
All of a
sudden her dream was interrupted. Lavinia saw a tall, blonde, woman
dressed in light blue with a pointed hat. She lit a cigarette and a
fountain of light appeared around her.
The woman
was a fairy. She approached Lavinia and gave her a ring. This magic
ring would change Lavinia’s life.
Soon
after Lavinia used her ring to find a family who wanted a little
girl. They adopted Lavinia and they lived happily ever after.
