"Theophany"

January 6. It was the first sunny day in the winter, the day of Theophany. It is a festival day that we celebrate and remember the christening of Jesus.

That day a family decided to follow up the ceremony. So, they went to the harbour. The kids, George, Billy and their parents were well dressed. When they arrived at the harbour it was crowded. Many ships were there in order to be blessed by the priest. That moment the priest dropped the Holly Cross into the water. Many divers jumped into the water to take the Holly Cross up. One of those was a young boy, his name was Petros. The kids, George and Billy, were seeing suspended, because they wanted Petros to be the one who would get the Holly Cross. Suddenly the young boy got out of the water holding the Holly Cross in his hands. The boys and the other divers were applauding him for his attempt. The priest blessed Petros. He felt very proud for himself and relieved, because he was successful in this event. The crowd were very pleased and happy for Petros as well. George and Billy wanted to talk to him and congratulated him. Mum and Dad of Billy and George were happy too. The kids said to their parents "In one year from today we want to come here again!”. Their parents felt very happy, because theirs kids were so pleased enjoying the ceremony of Theophany.

Afterwards, all the family went to restaurant to have lunch. The kids didn't stop speaking about that celebration. They very often asked to learn more for Theophany. When they went home, they called to their grandmother to tell them more! -"This event will be unforgettable!" said George and Billy. Their parents agreed with them. This Theophany was the best that they had ever passed!

We have just read your story and we think that it is very interesting. We have a few questions for you. In Italy there is Epiphany, too. But what is the difference between Epiphany and Theophany? We understood that you spotlight the importance of that day, in fact even if George and Billy lost, they were also happy for Theophany.

Your story is very interesting and involving because it describes an event about your epiphany tradition. In Italy the celebration of epiphany is completely different. We have only one question:

What is the ceremony of theophany like?? We should be very happy if you’ll replay to us!!

Thank you .
