We All Pray!

In the middle of the main road which leads from our town to the Thracian coastline (total distance 27 km) there is a Christian monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is a beautiful place with many trees around the church.

Once upon a time the farm where the church is located belonged to a Muslim rich man. The man had dreamed the luminous Cross symbol for three continuous nights. Then he permitted to the Christian Authorities to excavate his farm and they found the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. Then they put the icon on a coach and they built the church at the point where the horses had stopped. The tradition also says that on the coach was a young deaf-mute girl, the farmer’s nephew, who has been cured.

Every year, on August 23rd, when a great festival is held at the monastery, many people from Komotini go there on foot (12 km!) as a votive offering. Among the Christians man can see many Muslims to walk until the monastery and to worship the holy icon.

This is a proof of our harmonious life, isn’t it?
