NEWS FROM PRIMARY

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends

Welcome back to the third and final term of this academic year. We trust you all enjoyed the end of term holiday and that everyone is enthusiastic and ready for the final term.

There are many things happening in the final term and it will be a busy, productive one for everyone. Details of events will appear in this newsletter each week. Please make every effort to read through it, noting any upcoming events that involve your children or your family.

This first week has commenced well with children quickly settling into routines. It is vital that you and your child/children check their timetable each night, before going to bed, to ensure your child has what they need for school. This is particularly relevant with swimming lessons, which commenced this week.

The school has begun using a computerised registration system. This should help make this administrative task easier. The teachers will close the computerised register at 8am and therefore children arriving after this time must go to the school office to be registered. The school secretaries will give the children a pass which should be given to the class teacher to show they have been registered.

In a change to our normal procedure, the office staff will attempt to ring each absent child’s home to confirm that our child is not at school. It will be extremely helpful for parents to keep the school informed if their child is absent as we can then update our records accordingly.

Once again we do hope that the third term is a productive and enjoyable one for your child and your family.

Recycling Of Batteries And Hand Phones

Thousands of old household batteries and hand phone batteries are replaced with new ones every year. The old ones are then placed in boxes and never used again or thrown straight into the bin. That's too bad, because the batteries contain toxic material. They should be recycled.

Why do we need to recycle our batteries?

Well, batteries contain toxic materials such as lithium, cadmium, nickel, lead and hydrate metals that could pollute the earth if not disposed of properly. These batteries cannot be disposed of by throwing them together with your household rubbish, as chemicals can seep into the rivers and eventually into our rivers and oceans. By recycling your used cell phone batteries, you are helping to create a cleaner and safer environment.

Please be kind to the environment and not throw your batteries or hand phones in the trash. Send them in to Mr. Whittaker in the primary school where we will arrange for them to be recycled.
