NEWS FROM PRINCIPAL

Last Saturday morning, I accompanied our Under 9 Boys and Girls Football teams to ELC for a tournament in preparation for the FOBISSEA Games in June. It was a great occasion made special by the outstanding performances of both teams. The Girls       completed the tournament unbeaten and were pipped into 2nd place by Alice Smith on goal difference and the Boys went one better, winning the final in style and only conceding one goal all morning. There is a vast amount of effort being put into the preparation for the FOBISSEA Games by students, staff and families from Years 4, 5 and 6. We thank everyone for their commitment over these past weeks.

Nexus World - School, Putrajaya Open Day

As you may be aware, the Taylor’s Group is starting a new school in Putrajaya. This weekend, they will be holding open days on Saturday and Sunday. Please feel free to join us and view this excellent new facility and learn more about the programme they will be offering. Further information is available on the Nexus World-School web site www.nexus.edu.my

Car Park

Could I please remind families with drivers to ask them not to occupy car park spaces during after school pick up. They should either wait off site or circle the car park. These spaces are essential for families who do not have drivers and need to park to collect children. Thank you for your support.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

Next week is a short week with the Wesak Day holiday on Monday. We trust our families will enjoy this break.

In your child’s diary, you will find a letter summarizing the school’s uniform policy. It has been noted that a number of children are not wearing the correct uniform. We would politely request that families take the opportunity to ensure they are aware of the policy and that their children are appropriately dressed. Please remember to label all clothing including shoes.

On Friday, 23rd May, children may come to school dressed in blue, orange or last year’s Walk The World t-shirt. This is to raise funds for the charitable cause. Please send your child with a donation (RM1) on this day.

Have a wonderful week.

All Year 3 Art/DT books on display in the Exhibition Hall

The students start the art sketch book in Year 3, then it goes up the grades with them until they are in Years 7- 9, depending on when they fill the pages. Because the books stay in the studio, parents do not get to see this terrific work.

Display ends on Wednesday, 21st May.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

U9 Football Tournament

ELC School hosted their annual U9 football tournament at the weekend with GIS producing outstanding performances in both the boys and girls competition. The girls played a round-robin group match tournament and beat 4 other teams and drew with the eventual winners. Good teamwork and some fine individual play saw the girls take the silver medal, narrowly missing gold on goal difference.

The boys started well with a convincing 8-0 win over Mutiara school. They then went on to beat Alice Smith (5-0) and hosts ELC B (4-0). After a well fought semi-final, the boys reached the final in which they beat the hosts ELC(2-0) to take gold and lift the trophy. The teams were well supported and look to have promise for the future. Thanks goes to Mr. Mann and Ms. Hunt for coaching the girls to success.

NOTICE

Save Energy – Save our Planet

To help save our planet, the ENVIRONMENTAL RANGERS would like to share with you some ‘Tips on Saving Energy’ over the next few weeks, courtesy of YTL’s Climate Change Week 2008.

The Low Carbon Diet

Every time we flip a switch, take a hot shower or drive a car, we release carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 heats up the atmosphere and increases global warming. If all of us went on a low carbon diet, we could save the planet.

Tip 1: Finish Your Food, Avoid Wastage!

We dispose of around one-fifth of the fruits and vegetables we buy over a year. If we avoid wastage, this would reduce production and transport related CO2 emissions. So, don’t buy more perishables than you can eat in a week. As mum says, “Finish all your veggies!”

Try Tip 1 this week! You can make a difference!

Thank you!

Coffee Morning - Indian Culture

Date: Tuesday, 20th May ’08

Time: 8.30am - 10am

Venue: Primary Hall - 1st Floor, Arts Building

Our Indian parents have been very busy and will delight us with their food and culture during next weeks coffee morning. We will be enthralled with Indian customs and traditions, the making of Indian tea with ginger, Saree tying, the ancient wisdom of yoga, classical dance forms, music and of course delicious Indian food to taste. Don’t miss this Indian Coffee Morning or you’ll be disappointed.

Walk The World / Family Fun Day

Date: Saturday, 24th May ’08

Time: 9.30am - 3.00pm

It’s almost here! You marked Saturday, 24th May in your diaries a while back (we did ask you to) to participate in “Walk the World” & Fun Day to raise money for the World Food Program to try to end child hunger. It’s a noble cause and given the present food shortage this year’s event is even more relevant and so much more urgent.

The organizers have put together a great program to involve everyone and sustain their interest throughout the day.

Free breakfast for early birds from 9.30am-10am

The all important “Walk”

Fun games, football & netball matches, tug-o-war, clowns, sand art, face & nail painting, FOOD stalls, GIS Idol, fashion cat walk and our

home grown bands will play.

The football & netball matches will start at 11am and will be 15 min games. If you want to get a team together, 11 for football, 7 for netball, including men & women, adults and children, please do. Alternately, just roll up. Football will coordinate at the flagpoles beside the field and netball at the centre gate to the astro turf. This will be followed by Tug-O-War. Other international schools have been invited and the local community is welcome. So, we should get some exciting games.

Many students and teachers have been very busy and now we parents are needed to assist at the entrance, the food stalls and selling T-shirts. PLEASE consider giving some of your time to help. We have 3 time slots:  9 -11am, 11-1pm, & 1-3pm. If 2 hours is too long, just offer 1hr of your time.

Please call Lys on 012 2277 688, Jessie on  016 395 2507 or Karen after May 20th on 012 366 1256 to confirm your slot and where you’d like to help out.

The more people who help, the less each person has to do.
