Thank you for your interest in Garden International School. We accept student admissions throughout the year, subject to the School’s schedule.

We welcome children of all nationalities whose families are committed to an international educational curriculum in English. GIS is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in education and looks to admit candidates who we believe will contribute to and benefit from the curriculum offered and that his/her admission will support the education of existing students.

The admission of a child to GIS is at the absolute discretion of the School based on the child’s ability to access the curriculum with the resources and support the school is able to provide. In this regard, the School generally takes into consideration various factors, including the child’s chronological age, academic ability, level of achievement relative to the School’s current students and the child’s personality traits. We take into account factors including an applicant’s prior educational and linguistic background in order to fulfill the school’s mission of providing education in the English language to the international community. We ensure that the rights of current students take precedence over new applications. We aim for a diverse student body to help students develop as global citizens.

The School reserves the right to be selective in only offering places to students who reach the required standards and levels of attainment necessary for admission to the school.

To apply for a place at Garden International School, please complete the following steps:


1. The Application for Admission form may be obtained from the School, downloaded from the School’s website (click here). Upon completion, kindly email scanned copies of the completed form to, or courier these to us at the address stated on the form. If you prefer to complete an Online Application for Admission, please visit

2. Please ensure that all documents listed on the application checklist are included. Should any additional documents be required, our Admissions Team will let you know as soon as possible. We will begin the application process as soon as the complete documentation and the application fee are received.

3. As places fill up very quickly, we advise submitting an application as early as possible. As far as possible, we will try and provide you with a realistic assessment of the possibility of a successful enrolment and admission timing. However, like most international and private schools, our enrolment situation is dynamic and often unpredictable.



Our Year Group placement is based on UK British National Curriculum cut off dates and is the age/year group at which we strongly recommend children are placed. Age appropriate assessments are carried out to assess suitability for a challenging curriculum and ability to integrate with existing cohorts.

The 31st August cut-off date and year group placement protocol reflect what we believe to be the most appropriate classification for the social, emotional and academic well-being of children attending our school. Therefore, to ensure the most appropriate learning environment for all students in the school, we rarely allow exceptions for students to be moved above or below the year group placement protocol.

Our Nursery students are placed according to the UK British National Curriculum cut off dates. We will however, cater to students turning the age of three in the academic term of entry and place them in Pre-Nursery for the rest of the academic year. We offer a flexible day programme for 3-year-olds, which can be extended to a full-day program upon the teacher’s recommendation, and on parents’ request. Where places are limited, only full day programmes will be offered. Children who are placed in Reception attend a full-day programme five-days a week.

In all cases, the final decision on year group placement lies with the school.


English is the language of instruction in GIS, and the ability to successfully access the curriculum within a reasonable time and to thrive in our English-language learning environment are the guiding principles for admission to the school.


Students with mild to moderate learning differences will be considered based on our internal capacity to support the need in our mainstream setting.


Students with existing medical and physical needs will be considered based on our internal capacity to accommodate these needs in our mainstream setting. Students who require a Medical Care Plan will be given a Provision Agreement letter as part of their letter of offer. In addition, all students must be able to use the toilet independently.


GIS is a day school and does not have boarding facilities. Students must therefore reside with their parent(s), or a legal guardian (court documents are necessary to facilitate the eligibility for legal guardianship). As a non-Malaysian, the admission to and continued status as a student of the school is conditional on the student possessing a valid visa. Parent(s) or a legal

guardian must also possess a valid visa issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department. If an applicant requires a student visa, it is important to note that the School will manage the application process to the Malaysian authorities. Students will be able to join the school upon receipt of the necessary approval and in accordance with the timeline set by the school.


GIS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expects all members of the community to work closely with the School. In cases of separation or divorce, the School requires evidence of a Custody Agreement or Court Order. Without the appropriate document, each parent will be treated equally and the application will be reviewed carefully.


The nature of the assessment varies for different year groups and and may include, but not limited to, meeting a member of the academic staff, completing an online diagnostic assessment and an in class observation to form a holistic picture of the applicant.

Children who require learning or language support will be assessed carefully to determine whether the School is able to effectively support their needs. All forms of assessments conducted are a property of the School and will be kept private and confidential.

The application review and assessment process is designed to ensure that the placement of all children will best meet their educational and personal requirements.

Early Years Centre – Children already residing in Malaysia will be invited to a Meet and Greet session to enable applicants and teachers to meet and interact with each other in the actual school environment, helps to identify any issues that may affect the applicant’s ability to comfortably access the programas part of the screening process. At least one parent should attend this session. Applications for children residing outside of Malaysia will be screened and a preliminary offer of acceptance may be considered. The applicant is then asked to come in to the school for a Meet and Greet session upon arrival.

Primary School – Applicants aged 6 years 6 months and above are required to complete an online diagnostic assessment designed to help us understand how they learn and what their academic potential might be. Without obligation, we may also invite the applicants to attend an in class observations to help us to understand how they learn and what their academic potential might be. Social readiness for school becomes a determining factor for our younger students and those with additional needs.

Secondary School – Applicants to Secondary School are required to complete an online diagnostic assessment. In reviewing an applicant’s eligibility we look at his/her school records as well as a confidential recommendation from their current school. In instances in which we have some questions regarding the applicant’s ability to access the curriculum, we may require the applicant to take additional assessment tests and/or interview.

Assessment tests for overseas applicants, if required, may be administered at the applicant’s current school if the school is able to monitor the test and return the results directly to us.

Sixth Form – In addition to similar assessments for Secondary School admission, the acceptance of a student into the Sixth Form programme is dependant on achieving pre-requisite grades at IGCSE or its equivalent. It is important to note that some subjects have capacity constraints, determined by the amount of accommodation and equipment available, and the more popular subjects can reach full capacity early on in the options process. Our students are required to complete the GIS Sixth Form Diploma which is designed to complement academic studies by developing key skill areas such as research and leadership.


When the number of eligible applicants exceeds the availability of spaces for a particular year group, English as an Additional Language and Learning Support registers, students may be placed in a wait pool until space becomes available. We consider various criteria in selecting students from the wait pool, including whether the student has other viable educational options, his/her level of English and general academic proficiency, subject options and exam levels, and the gender and nationality balance of the cohort, classes and whole school.



An offer of admission to the school is based on the belief that a child will benefit from the curriculum offered and that his/her admission will support the education of existing students. It is possible a student is offered a place on specific conditions and with a Provisional Agreement.

The acceptance of an offer must be made by paying the applicable fees on or before the stipulated date on the letter of offer. The payment of the required fees in full constitutes the acceptance of a place and therein confirms the place for the student.

The admission of a student is at the absolute discretion of the School and the School is not obliged to offer any justification for an unsuccessful application. Admission decisions will be made available to parents in writing.


We strive to maintain a balance of gender, abilities and nationalities across the school and admissions decisions are made in accordance with this aim. The placement of the child in an appropriate year group and class are at the absolute discretion of the School.
