Garden International School student spotlight Ashleigh Poh

Garden International School student spotlight Ashleigh PohNationality: Malaysian
Roles/positions in school: Dragons tennis secretary, positive education strand director, director or arts for PA360.

What is your happy space?
Somewhere quiet outside with a good book or a good movie with warm tea or just hanging and chilling out with the people I love.

What do you aspire to be when you grow up and why?
Currently, I’m looking into either being a doctor, particularly a paediatrician just because I love children and if I have the power to help others, I’d like to. I’m also leaning towards business / economics just because I enjoy the subject and I find it so interesting.

Tell us about your favourite activity/project at GIS.
I’m involved in project arts 360 and I’m the head of arts. I really enjoy this because again, it involves children which i love and it also lets me destress from school. Just hanging out with the children and allowing them and myself to join art activities together is really satisfying and relaxing.

What is the best part of studying at GIS?
As someone who has been part of GIS since nursery, I would have to say the community. The people here are generally so welcoming, polite and kind which is great. It’s very much a community where everyone knows everyone and it’s just very warm.

As a director of strand, how do you see yourself leading your team?
With the positive education strand, I envision a group of people who are all enthusiastic and active participants who work harmoniously together. We listen to one another and can compromise to make a well informed and practical decisions, and as a leader so far, I see that we have an amazing vibe and as a team we just click. Everyone gets along and they make it enjoyable and easy to guide the team to achieve our goals. I see myself somewhat guiding the team but learning and bonding with them too. Student leadership is something that we all committed to together and we will learn and achieve together.

Share with us some of your proud achievements in life so far.
For my IGCSE’s, after a lot of hardwork and stress, I got straight A’s and A*’s. I have represented Malaysia in the U18 ASEAN school games in 2016 for tennis. I had a national ranking of number one in Malaysia is 2015. My achievements so far have also given me the wondrous opportunity to be at GIS with a scholarship!

Complete the sentence: I wish to be fearless.

Life motto: Be brave and be bold. Be the change you want to see.
