Are you up for the challenge? Let’s all get involved and transform the lives of our friends at the Rohingya Education Centre.
We are challenging our students to read as much as they can from 26th March to 27th April, and to collect sponsorship money as they do this. However, parents are more than welcome to get involved.
By reading and collecting sponsorship money, we will be raising money to help transform the Rohingya Education Centre in Gombak. RM 50,000 will allow up to 150 students, who have been forced to leave their homes in Myanmar, to have a safer, cleaner and more inspiring environment to learn in.
This video below shows the impact of The Big Read 2017.
For more information, please have a look at the following slides. All Primary and Secondary students will hear about The Big Read this week. They will also receive a sponsorship booklet and sticker. If you need any more booklets, please just ask your class teacher or pop in to either of the libraries, the Primary or Secondary office or the main desk in the foyer.
MPH Bookstore, who has kindly pledged at least 10% of what we raise in books for the Rohingya Education Centre, have also offered our students a free, personalised MPH membership card which enables 10% off any MPH purchase. Please sign up here for your child to receive one of these cards.
Good luck and thank you for getting involved. Together we can really make a difference!
In advance of Book Week, which will run from 23rd-27th April, we are also launching our Fun Reading Competition– please send any photos of you and your children reading as a family at home and/ or in interesting places to welovereading@gardenschool.
One of the highlights of Book Week is a Skype Q&A with highly regarded author Anthony Horowitz. Please sign up here if you would like the chance of joining this event.
Finally, there will be a Book Character Dress-Up Day on Thursday 26th April. Again, there will be prizes across the school for the best costumes!
If you have any questions regarding The Big Read or Book Week, please direct them to the Secondary Library (sheldon.s@gardenschool.edu.my
