GIS Stories | Parents Insights | Dr Shen Li

Dr Shen Li, parent of 2 children, would like to share why her family chose Garden International School and what “We Are GIS” mean for them. Forward-thinking, innovative and holistic are the three words Dr Shen Li would used to describe GIS.

“I’m Shen Li, I have two children in GIS. We’ve been here for about sixth years. My eldest son is in year five and my younger son is in year two”.

Do you think GIS is an innovative school?
Yes I do actually, I find that I’ve seen some changes to the school as my kids have gone through even though there’s only like a three year gap between them. I’ve seen the implementation of new programs like for instance the teaching of the growth mindset they introduced the jungle school. The school when they see that there is a better way to do something they incorporate these programs and I think that’s what you want education to be about. You want it to evolve you want it to progress it can’t stay the same from like when we were in school

What is the quality of the pastoral care at school?
That was one of the things that really impressed me to see that there was a counseling service in the school. Aside from that they also have a learning support group that help kids with other areas not just within the academic scene but to all roundedness, that’s great. I mean the school thinks about developing the child all-round it’s whole child development not just academic.

How do you feel about the quality and variety of the CCA program?
That’s one of the things that I love about the school because there is a huge variety of choices that the kids can do. It can, you know, whether it is physical or it’s creative or it’s community service based. There are so many choices that there is always going to be something that my kids would be interested in, and because it’s part of the school program I’m not having, I’m not worried about looking for programs outside the school and shuttling them between the school and wasting time in traffic. So it’s great that the school has so many options.

Would you recommend Garden International School to other parents?
Definitely, in fact I already do, I do because I think I have been overall very impressed with a lot of things that the school does and if I had any concerns or worries before the kids started school every day what I’m learning about what the school does it reassures me that this is the right path to choose and that we’ve done we’ve made a good decision coming here.

What three words would you use to describe Garden International School?
 I think forward-thinking, holistic, Innovative.

What does “We are GIS” mean to you?
To me it is about unity, it’s about partnership, community, it’s working together basically.
