Knowledge sharing, Dr Conti and his new approach to teaching listening in Modern Foreign Languages

Dr Gianfranco Conti, a Garden International School (GIS) Modern Foreign Language (MFL) teacher and founder of The Language Gym, was invited to Oxford University, UK to host a presentation on “Breaking the sound barrier – teaching listening bottom up” on April 1st.

The presentation was attended by members of the MFL teaching communities in the UK. In the presentation, he shared the cutting-edge approach to teaching listening and its relations to the way the human brain processes aural input.

At GIS, Dr Conti himself and MFL teacher Dylan Vinales have pioneered this new approach that many teachers from around the world have adopted in their schools reporting excellent results as can been seen with all the reference to Dr Conti on social media by his peers around the world.

Recently, the Chief Executive Officer of ResearchED, Mr Tom Bennet who organised the conference, shared his thoughts about the presentation in a message to Dr Conti. Below is his testimonial:

I invited Gianfranco Conti to my conference ‘researchED English and MFL’ at Oxford University on April the 1st 2017. I did so on the recommendation of many, many members of the MFL teaching communities in the UK who all expressed how thrilled they would be to hear about his work in the flesh. After a little research I realised that his reputation, based on the quality of his work, his delivery, and the impact his work has had on the language communities, pointed towards someone of importance to the debate in this field. […].

As such he was one of the most popular speakers of the day, and in my opinion one of the best presenters I have seen in the UK. I wish he was available more often, as the impact he has on his audience is palpable.
