2nd Chess International Tournament at GIS

This is an individual or team tournament open to all students attending international schools in Malaysia. There are 5 categories of play: Under 18, U-14, U-12, U-10, U-8 . All categories will be played using the Swiss System, with 6 rounds for each category. RM85 per entry (inclusive of 6% GST). Registration is required.

GIS X Factor

The GIS X Factor competition returns this year to celebrate the culture of singing at GIS. Students from all Primary year groups can be involved. There are three stages: class auditions, semi-finals (where 1 student/group from each class perform for their year group) and the hotly-anticipated Grand Final, when two students from each year group perform to the whole Primary school!

Our GIS Street Store involves a group of student and staff volunteers going to the Homeless Transit Centre and setting up a ‘store’ for our street friends. Two weeks before the day, the GIS community will be asked to donate clothes, shoes, toothbrushes, shampoo, bags and various other products, which will all be set out into stalls for men, women and children. Our student volunteers will act as personal shoppers to provide each and every one of our KL street friends with a special shopping experience.
Whole School CCA Concert

This is a whole school concert to share and perform Music rehearsed in our Music Co-curricular Programs.

The Friendship Day is organised by the members of the Connect Club. The members sell dedications a month before the day: on each dedication, the students can write on a message to their friends and classmates and mark what type of gift they want to be delivered. Gifts can include things like a squishy, a bar of chocolate, a rose or a happy ball! The dedications are sold during breaks and any profits are used to fund our community projects.

Our counselling team facilitate leavers groups to support students leaving GIS in their transition process. Students will receive a GIS leavers kit which explains the different stages of transition, helping them to ensure that they can make the necessary steps to ensure a ‘good goodbye’ to their time at GIS.
Battle of the Bands

Our annual Battle of the Bands is a music competition featuring performances from secondary student bands. Bands will perform one original song plus two cover songs. It's always a great night to see some incredibly talented Secondary musicians in action!
Annual Refugee Sports Day

GIS has the pleasure of hosting its annual Refugee Sports Day. The day is led by our student Community Sports Leaders, who plan and run the day as part of their Level 2 Community Sports Leaders Qualification. Around 60 Year 12 students will be involved in putting on a sporting feast for our Refugee centres, and will run activities for around 250 Refugee children aged 5-15 from 5 different centres using all the sports facilities at GIS.

Science Week is run in conjunction with British Science Week in the UK. Throughout the week, students from both Primary and Secondary will have the opportunity to involve themselves in a variety of Science based activities that get them to think about the different facets of the subject and enrich and extend their learning in lessons. Most of these activities are designed, planned and run by student Science Ambassadors.
KS3 Play - Oliver Twist

This is a CCA-based activity for any students from Y7 to Y9. There will be rehearsals in Term 2 and performance in Term 2. The Year’s show is Oliver Twist and it will be performed in the Grand Hall from 6pm. Tickets for sale after the Chinese New Year Holiday.

This event is to support our new families with their transition into Garden International School and is intended for all new parents and students. The morning provides an opportunity to meet the class teacher and/or other key members of staff. We have arranged for a number of our service providers to be on hand to help families sign up for and/or learn a bit more about the services they provide, ensuring that our new families feel confident and comfortable navigating their way around the school from day 1.

Tug of War, wheelbarrow races, the ‘welly wang’, the three legged race and the sack race might all make an appearance in this final Inter-House week of the Year! Year 7s will run on Monday, Year 8s on Tuesday and Year 9s on Wednesday.

The counselling team will meet with new students in small groups, around 5-6 weeks after the beginning of each term. The goal is to introduce the department and services provided by counselling. It is also an opportunity for the counselling team to discuss any transition issues the students may be having and and get to know how they are settling into the school environment.

Move Up Day / Leavers Farewell

‘Moving Up Day’ allows all children to become accustomed to their new class and their new teacher through a number of activities. These activities will allow them to become familiar with how to get to their new classes, as well as the routines in their new classes.
Goodbye Event: For many international school students, moving to new places is the norm. This event will help these children and their families better understand the transition process and prepare to say 'good' goodbyes so that they feel prepared for their next step.

This is a week where GIS Secondary students are given the opportunity to develop an increased sense of social responsibility, a global view of society and a heart for helping others. It is always a busy week: some students will be in school working with local refugee children, others will be doing local projects with NGO centres around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, and some students will be going on residential trips around Malaysia, improving lives of local communities and/or helping out with environmental causes.
Upper Primary Musical

The Upper Primary Musical is an exciting production for Year 4-6 students who would like to be involved in a large production at GIS! Students can audition for a main cast role or be involved in the choir or prop-making CCAs. Students will perform four shows to a large audience, and attend rehearsals and workshops throughout Term 3.

The annual GIS Eisteddfod is a showcase of the arts at one of the Blue Ribbon House Competitions of the year. Students compete within their Houses in various events including (but not limited to) dance, choir, movie-making, group music, drama and the grand finale of the whole House song!
