New Families Induction Day - Term 3

This event is to support our new families with their transition into Garden International School and is intended for all new parents and students. The morning provides an opportunity to meet the class teacher and/or other key members of staff. We have arranged for a number of our service providers to be on hand to help families sign up for and/or learn a bit more about the services they provide, ensuring that our new families feel confident and comfortable navigating their way around the school from day 1.
Year 6 Transition Info Evening

This is a valuable opportunity for our Year 6 parents to learn about our transition processes, and to find out more about Secondary life and learning. We will introduce parents to key staff, outline the Secondary curriculum and assessments, and provide practical suggestions of how parents can support their child through this process and beyond.

Fun Sports - Interhouse Sports

A chance for students from Year 7- 9 to represent their House playing some ‘old-school’ sports! Tug of War, wheelbarrow races, the ‘welly wang’, the three legged race and the sack race might all make an appearance in this final Inter-House week of the Year! Year 7s will run on Monday, Year 8s on Tuesday and Year 9s on Wednesday.
Year 8 - Environmental Expo

This year, our Year 8s have engaged in a community environmental project to reduce our community’s use of one-use plastic. Products and awareness materials will be proudly showcased in the main school lobby area, with all parents and students invited.

New Students Session

The counselling team will meet with new students in small groups, around 5-6 weeks after the beginning of each term. The goal is to introduce the department and services provided by counselling. It is also an opportunity for the counselling team to discuss any transition issues the students may be having and and get to know how they are settling into the school environment.

The Instrumental Music Program Recital series provides an opportunity for 15 students per term to perform a short piece to showcase their learning in instrumental lessons. The recital is a relaxed and exciting way for students to begin their journey performing on their chosen instrument
Design and Technology Exhibition

A showcase of the outstanding work of our Design and Technology students from the last 12 months. The exhibition will take place in the Main Foyer.
Year 2 - Intro to ipad workshop

An parent workshop introducing the use of ipads in the classroom for Year 2 students, prior to their use of this technology in Year 3.

One of two workshops (one based at EYC and one based at the main campus) which give parents the chance to find out the process of transition between our EYC and Primary school, and how the school and parents can support this. It will also provide a valuable opportunity for parents to learn more about Year 1 and the curriculum.
Move Up Day / Leavers Farewell

‘Moving Up Day’ allows all children to become accustomed to their new class and their new teacher through a number of activities. These activities will allow them to become familiar with how to get to their new classes, as well as the routines in their new classes.
Goodbye Event: For many international school students, moving to new places is the norm. This event will help these children and their families better understand the transition process and prepare to say 'good' goodbyes so that they feel prepared for their next step.
Hari Raya Community Celebrations

A morning of celebration to celebrate Hari Raya as a community. The event will be parent-led, with food, music and dance.
June 17, 2019 - June 21, 2019
This is a week where GIS Secondary students are given the opportunity to develop an increased sense of social responsibility, a global view of society and a heart for helping others. It is always a busy week: some students will be in school working with local refugee children, others will be doing local projects with NGO centres around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, and some students will be going on residential trips around Malaysia, improving lives of local communities and/or helping out with environmental causes.
Upper Primary Musical

The Upper Primary Musical is an exciting production for Year 4-6 students who would like to be involved in a large production at GIS! Students can audition for a main cast role or be involved in the choir or prop-making CCAs. Students will perform four shows to a large audience, and attend rehearsals and workshops throughout Term 3.

The annual GIS Eisteddfod is a showcase of the arts at one of the Blue Ribbon House Competitions of the year. Students compete within their Houses in various events including (but not limited to) dance, choir, movie-making, group music, drama and the grand finale of the whole House song!
