The GIS Scholarship Criteria and Application Requirements

Criteria

Successful applicants will show evidence in most or all of these areas:

  1. Academic excellence 
  2. All-round involvement/achievement in other areas of study
  3. Wider community involvement/Service learning
  4. Demonstration of leadership qualities

Application Requirements:

1. Online Application for Admission form and required documents

Please complete our Online Application Process via the GIS Website and provide all required documents as stated the checklist. A signed copy of the GIS Scholarship 2024 Terms and Conditions must be uploaded upon application.

Note: The subject options form will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

2. Personal Statement

Please write a 500-word Personal Statement clearly detailing your strengths and abilities and how you can contribute to Garden International School in one A4 paper, with the Arial font, size 10 point.

3. Reports and Certificates

  • The most recent two year’s school report;
  • The most recent two years’ academic and co-curricular certificates and awards;
  • IGCSE mock exam results; 
  • IGCSE predicted grades;
  • Copy of the IGCSE/SPM certificates (if already available);

4. Teacher’s Recommendation

Recommendation letter from the Head Teacher or Class Tutor of the current/most recent school, highlighting academic and co-curricular achievements in school.

5. Supporting Documents

A copy of both parents’ Income Tax Return 2022 to the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia

6. Scholarship application submission

Please ensure all files are clearly labelled and sent to admissions@gardenschool.edu.my. Incomplete and/or late submissions will not be considered.

2. Personal Statement

3. Performance Element

Applicants for the creative arts scholarship must study at least one creative arts at A Level (music, drama, photography or art) and would be expected to contribute to the creative arts at GIS through involvement in the creative arts programme of extracurricular opportunities: 

  • School orchestra – our full symphonic orchestra consisting of 60+ students performing at regular concerts and events.
  • School musical theatre production – our incredible annual musical theatre show involving singing, acting, dancing or playing in the show band.
  • The Big Draw – a whole-school visual arts festival celebrated through various exciting exhibitions and events.
  • Curating exhibitions – collaborating with our Visual Arts faculty to develop skills in expert art curation.
  • Drama performances – auditioning and supporting on a range of drama performances.

4. Practical/composition submission

Applicants should demonstrate their creative excellence through the submission of one or more of the following:

  1. Drama: Solo acting performance (video) with an opening explanation of the performance.
  2. Music: Solo musical performance (video) and/or notated composition (.xml file).
  3. Art: Portfolio of art/design/photography work (3-5 pieces showing the creative process).
