The GIS A Level Scholarships Programme is designed to reward and motivate talented students, whether they are outstanding academically, musically gifted or strong at sports – or even a combination of all of these! WHAT IS INCLUDED?
If you are joining GIS in Sixth Form for the 2021-2022 academic year (commencing August 2021) and are awarded a scholarship with us, you will receive a Waiver on the Application and Registration fees (Benefit of RM21,300), as well as a discount of up to RM50,000 on tuition fees, depending on the type of scholarship awarded.

WHY GIS?

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY
We welcome exceptional students with Malaysian Passport, who are eligible to join Year 12 in the 2021-2022 academic year (commencing August 2021), to apply.

Scholarship Eligibility

The GIS A Level Scholarship 2021 is available to Malaysian students (Malaysian passport holders) who are currently attending public or private/international schools.

Scholarships will be awarded to students who can demonstrate significant excellence in either academic and co-curricular performance. Applicants should be able to demonstrate exemplary academic and co-curricular achievements to date, a commitment to helping others, highly developed collaborative skills and a capacity for abstract levels of thinking and reasoning.

The scholarship application is for admission into Year 12 in Term 1, 2021/22 commencing in August 2021.

Scholarship recipients enjoy a significant reduction in school tuition fees, of up to RM50,000. Successful candidates will also benefit from the waiver of the Application Fee (RM1,300) and Registration Fee (RM20,000).

Scholarship Eligibility

The GIS A Level Arts Scholarship 2021 is available to Malaysian students (Malaysian passport holders) who are currently attending public or private/international schools.

Scholarships will be awarded to students who can demonstrate significant excellence in both academic and co-curricular performance. Applicants should be able to demonstrate exemplary academic and co-curricular achievements to date, a commitment to helping others, highly developed collaborative skills and a capacity for abstract levels of thinking and reasoning.

Key Expectations 

  • A successful applicant will take at least one (1) Arts A Level – Music, Art or Drama
  • A successful applicant will be expected to apply for a role in the Arts Student Leaders strand.
  • A successful applicant will be expected to be involved in extracurricular opportunities including some or all of the following:
    • School orchestra – our full symphonic orchestra, consisting of 60+ students, who perform regularly at concerts and events.
    • School musical theatre production – our annual musical theatre show, which could involve singing, acting, dancing or playing in the show band.
    • The Big Draw – a whole-school visual arts festival, celebrated through a variety of exhibitions and events.
    • Curating exhibitions – collaborating with our Visual Arts faculty to develop skills in expert art curation.
    • Drama performances – auditioning and supporting on a range of drama performances.

Additional Requirements if applying specifically for an Arts Scholarship

  • Practical/composition submission (one or more of the following):
  • Drama: Solo acting performance (video) with an opening explanation of the performance.
  • Music: Solo musical performance (video) and/or notated composition (.xml file).
  • Art: Portfolio of art/design/photography work (3-5 pieces showing the creative process).
  • Personal Statement focused on the topic: ‘Value of the Arts in Society’ (Max 500 words). Choose one of the questions to respond to:
    1. How can the arts play a role in shaping society in the next 10 years?
    2. How do the arts contribute to the economy?
    3. How do the arts help to build a sense of identity and culture in society?
    4. Why is the study of the creative arts so important?

The art scholarship application is for admission into Year 12 in Term 1, 2021/22, commencing in August 2021.

Scholarship recipients enjoy a significant reduction in school tuition fees (up to RM 50,000). Successful candidates will also benefit from the waiver of the Application Fee (RM1,300) and Registration Fee (RM20,000).

Application process

Scholarship applications will be accepted from now until Friday 12th March 2021, for admission into Year 12 in Term 1, 2021/22 (commencing August 2021). Late applications will not be considered.

Application requirements 

All scholarship applicants are required to submit the following

  • Application for Admission form and required documents
    • Please complete the form accurately and provide all required documents (as stated on the checklist) on the form. Fill up or download the form here.
      Please note that you do not need to submit a Subjects Form yet;  this will follow once you are accepted as a scholar. 
  • Personal Statement
    • Please write a Personal Statement (max. 500 words), clearly detailing your strengths and abilities, as well as what you would contribute as a student at Garden International School.
  • Certificates
    • Application into Year 12
      • A copy of your most recent school report, IGCSE/SPM results or equivalent mock exam results and predicted grades;
      • A copy of academic and co-curricular achievement certificates and awards
  • Teacher’s Recommendation
    • Reference letter from the Headteacher or Class Tutor of the current school, highlighting academic and co-curricular achievements in school
  •  Supporting Documents
    • A copy of both parents’ Income Tax Return 2020 to the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia
  •  The GIS Scholarship 2021 Programme Terms & Conditions
  •  Additional Requirements if applying specifically for an Arts Scholarship
    • Practical/composition submission (one or more of the following):
      • Drama: Solo acting performance (video) with an opening explanation of the performance.

Application Submission

  • Please ensure all files are clearly labelled. Incomplete and/or late submissions will not be considered.
  • Submission by email only. Please send all of the above via email to admissions@gardenschool.edu.my

Timeline

  • Application period: Open until Friday 12th March 2021
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a Cognitive Abilities Test at GIS
  • Successful candidates will be contacted individually in April 2021

The scholarship committee comprises the GIS Principal, Head of Secondary, and a representative from the Leadership Team who will interview all shortlisted candidates and meet to determine the final scholarship awards. A member of the relevant academic or co-curricular department may also be part of the selection process, depending on the nature of scholarship application.

Timeline

  • Application period until 12th Mar 2021
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a Cognitive Abilities Test at GIS
  • The Final Decision will be announced in April 2021

Scholarship Restrictions

  • This GIS Scholarship 2021 is available to students who are currently NOT attending Garden International School. 
  • Successful applicants are not able to receive more than one type of scholarship per academic year.
  • Scholarships are valid for one academic year, though it is anticipated that the scholarship will be renewed each year subject to sustained academic performance and continued contributions to academics and/or co-curricular area/s at an extremely high level.

Our Internal GIS Scholarships are an opportunity for us to reward existing GIS students who are both outstanding learners, and contribute broadly to the school community. We have a number of scholarships available, which provide discounted school fees for the duration of the sixth form experience.
