A warm welcome to GIS Primary.
At GIS, we put the success of each individual child at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to ensure that our students are supported and challenged so that they can fulfill their individual potential. Our definition of success means that the children in our care have the best pastoral support as well as the best academic mentoring, tailored to their individual needs.
GIS Learning Culture
Our learning culture begins with the outstanding teaching we offer our students. In order to achieve this, we are committed to providing the best ongoing professional development opportunities for the teachers at GIS so that we can in turn provide rich, challenging and inspiring learning opportunities for our students.
We are proud of our diverse and truly inclusive culture here at GIS and we believe it’s one of the things that makes us so unique and special. Our school community includes families from 60 nationalities and children from a wide range of academic backgrounds and ability levels. Our focus is on individual achievement, and our students consistently make outstanding academic progress from a wide range of starting points.
The opportunities we offer our students to excel outside the classroom are also extensive, through our comprehensive CCA programme. This includes a wide variety of sporting, performing and creative arts opportunities. Our CCA programme is also enriched with many inspiring trips, camps and visits throughout each academic year.
“At GIS, we believe in preparing our students for life as global citizens and we want to place GIS at the heart of our community. One of the ways we do this is through the many opportunities we offer our children to be involved in whole-school charity events and service-based community projects.” – Nicola Nelson, Head of Primary

We recognise that each child has a unique set of attributes and abilities. We aim to encourage them to be inquisitive, informed and independent students; who will be inspired to contribute to their community, become effective communicators and develop resilience as individuals. We aim to ensure solid foundations are laid for your child’s future success.
KEY STAGE 1
The first key stage welcomes children from the Early Years Centre (EYC) preschool into the Primary School and encourages each child to continue their development and maintain the fun, active approach to learning. Information Communication Technology (ICT) is central to the learning process, and it is used extensively across all areas of the curriculum. Classroom-based learning along with a broad co-curricular programme and education outside the classroom ensure we provide a holistic education for your child.
The majority of learning takes place in the nurturing environment of the classroom facilitated by the classroom teacher and assistant teachers. Specialist teachers support the teaching of Music, Physical Education and World Languages. Bahasa Malaysia, the national language helps each child develop their cultural understanding of Malaysia and allows them to converse in the language, whilst Mandarin lessons help children develop the skills and passion to learn an additional language.
Using the National Curriculum objectives in England we plan and teach stimulating and inspiring cross-curricular Enquiry units of work building on the children’s interests and developing knowledge, skills and understanding in Science, History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology and Positive Education.
GIS utilises both the classroom and education opportunities outside the classroom to provide a programme that develops World Changers. At GIS we believe that our responsibility goes beyond producing outstanding academic results. We are fully committed to providing a holistic, well-balanced education as outlined in the Student Vision.
KEY STAGE 2
This stage builds upon the foundations laid in the Early Years and Key Stage 1, preparing children for the next phase of their education. Literacy is taught daily with a strong emphasis on the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The development of practical, mental and applied mathematics is achieved through our numeracy lessons.
In Years 5 and 6, French and Spanish are added to the World Languages programme, as well as the option to continue studying Malay and Mandarin. Homework is provided throughout the school, and is aimed at consolidating skills taught at school and encouraging parents to play an active role in their children’s education. Children’s progress is assessed throughout Key Stages 1 and 2 against standards from the United Kingdom ensuring we have a very good understanding of their ongoing progress, individual abilities and to ensure their future needs are met.
