GIS Solar Panels and Sustainability
Addressing the growing apprehensions related to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, educational institutions are proactively fostering a sense of environmental responsibility in the younger generation. Recognising the importance of promoting sustainable practices, Taylors School Group in Kuala Lumpur has embarked on a groundbreaking Solar Panel Initiative involving the installation of 350 solar panels on the roofs of their schools, aimed at curbing toxic carbon emissions and mitigating the impact of climate change. This is just one of their Care for the World (Care:Mvmt) projects.
Solar Panels at GIS
As part of the Taylor Schools community initiative, Garden International School (GIS) showcases its commitment to sustainability by installing energy-storing solar panels on the Art block roof. A real-time digital tracker monitors energy savings, providing insights into the efficacy of solar panels, while through our Green Dragons Student Leadership program, students actively engage in hands-on activities to deepen their understanding of solar energy’s importance and impact.
A Commitment to Green Living
By tapping into the energy of the sun through solar panels, GIS is taking a meaningful step towards environmental responsibility. It’s more than just a technological choice; it’s a commitment to doing our part in the collective effort against climate change and global warming. Through the use of solar technology, GIS aims to reduce its carbon footprint, contributing to the broader movement for a cleaner, greener, safer, and kinder future. This isn’t just about the present; it’s an investment in the well-being of upcoming generations. Our solar panels symbolise a tangible dedication to positive change, shaping a brighter future for the generations to come.
Highlighting the tangible results of GIS’s commitment to these sustainable energy practices, the month of October unfolded as a compelling example.
This distinguishes GIS as one of the few international schools in Malaysia actively contributing to the creation of a greener and safer future. The impact is not only quantifiable but also serves as a testament to the ongoing education and awareness of young minds that can contribute to shaping positive change for the future.
Nurturing a Greener Tomorrow
At GIS, caring for the planet goes way beyond just installing solar panels. We’ve also initiated other Care:Mvmt projects as part of our commitment to the environment. We’ve ditched single-use plastic cutlery, handing out reusable cutlery sets to both staff and students, encouraging everyone to be mindful of their environmental footprint. During GIS Green Week, we come together to discuss and engage in sustainability efforts, including activities like Blue & Green Endangered Animals Dress Up Day, the Thrift Store, Mont Kiara Walk Plogging, and Lunch Time Workshop: DIY Plant Pot, to name a few. Moreover, beyond environmental concerns, our students actively fundraise for causes like the Turkiye earthquake relief, embodying our ethos of social responsibility and genuine care.
Nurturing Green Minds
Garden International School exemplifies a comprehensive educational approach through initiatives like the Solar Panel Initiative, emphasising environmental responsibility. This initiative fosters collaboration among students, placing equal importance on the learning process and outcomes. Through active participation, students not only contribute to environmental efforts but also develop crucial skills and broadened perspectives.
